RBI Withdraws Rs 2000 Notes From Circulation


• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that the Rs 2,000 notes will be discontinued from circulation and will only remain legal tender.

• Approximately 89% of the Rs 2,000 denomination banknotes were issued prior to March 2017 and have reached the end of their estimated life-span of 4-5 years.

However, RBI said bank notes of Rs 2,000 denomination will continue to be legal tender

Exchange of notes into banknotes of other denominations can be made up to a limit of Rs 20,000 starting from May 23, 2023
